Australian Silver Coins
British coins were in use until 1910 when Australia minted her own Silver Coins.
The silver and gold and copper coins still had a portrait of King Edward VII on one side.
Silver coins included florins (two shillings),shillings (twelve pence),sixpences and threepences.
In 1911 copper pennies and halfpennies were minted.
An interesting note is that pre 1947 Australian coins have an actual silver content of 0.925 of the silver weight.
The rarest early Australian coin is the 1930 Penny and this copper coin fetches up to A$35,000
A Crown (5 shilling piece) was minted in 1937 and 1938.
These are very popular with collectors.
There is an interesting series of pre-decimalisation commemorative coins (florins - two shilling pieces) and these were minted until 1954.

The recent Silver Kookaburra and zodiac coins are the most popular with collectors.
