The Gold Eagle Coin is a $10 Gold Bullion Coin that traces its history back to the California Gold Rush of 1848.

There is also a larger $20 Gold Eagle coin and thess are known as Double Eagle gold coins.

Augustus Saint-Gaudens designed the Gold Eagle in a tribute to Greek Beauty.

This was in 1907 at the suggestion of President Roosevelt

After WW1 the Banks had a run on Gold following Gold Hoarding by individuals.

The Gold Reserve Act tried to stop the hoarding of Gold coins but failed..
In 1933 The Gold Confiscation Act made it illegal for people to own gold and in 1934 most of the 1933 Double Eagle Gold Coins were recalled to be melted down.

Gold Eagles that survived are now very collectible and expensive..
A new series of Gold Eagle coins were issued in 1985 and had to be sourced from newly mined gold from the USA.
