American Half Eagle Gold Coin

One of the most popular collectors and investors coins in It was in production between 1795 and 1929. The Original design was by Robert Scot. There have been a number of different designs of the Half Eagle Gold Coin. Originally the coins contained .9167 gold and .0833 silver and copper content. The Obverse side was known as the Turban Head (a capped Other designs including a Draped Bust version were also minted later. Between 1839 and 1908 the value was changed to read Five D instead of 5 D. and the coin was made with .900 gold and .100 copper giving a slightly different color. A new design in 1908 by Bela Lyon Pratt showed and incused (like an intaglio) design and inscriptions and this reduced wear on what were previously the raised parts of the coin. This design featured an Indian head with a feathered headdress with a perched Eagle on the reverse and inscription of E Pluribus Unum and In God We Trust.
